Martijn Vochteloo wins poster price

Recently, Martijn Vochteloo, 4th year student of bioinformatics, has won the graduation poster prize from his institute for Life Sciences and Technology.

Martijn's research into a new e-health application for measuring movement disorders was selected as most appealing to the imagination. Martijn has been doing an internship at Movement Disorders Groningen for six months and during his internship he developed an app for a smartwatch with which various movement disorders can be mapped in real time (supervised by Dr Martijn Beudel and Prof. Marina de Koning-Tijssen). Although there is a lot of experience within Movement Disorders Groningen with measuring movements, the most innovative aspect of Martijn's app is that movements can be determined almost instantaneously in an easy and patient-friendly way. This can be particularly applicable for finding the optimal settings of deep brain stimulation in patients with muscle twitching or tremor.
