PhD Defence Dr. Martje van Egmond

On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, July 3, Martje van Egmond defended her thesis entitled "Young onset movement disorders, genetic advances require a new clinical approach".

In her thesis, Dr. van Egmond discusses movement disorders in children and adolescents: she argues that these patients should be seen by multidisciplinary teams. She especially investigated children with dystonia and myoclonus, for instance in patients with Northsea Disease. A few years ago, one of her articles has won the prize as the best movement disorders article published that year, wirtten by an investigator younger than 40.

After an hour long discussion with professors from different universities, she was rewarded for her efforts and may now call herself Dr. Martje van Egmond!
