Team Movement Disorders Groningen enriched with two new MD/PhD students

Two new MD/PhD students will join the hyperkintic movement disorders research group. These students participate in a special trajectory via the Junior Scientific Masterclass Groningen, which allows them to combine their medical internships and a PhD project.

During her MD/Phd Sjoukje Polet will invesigate North Sea progressive myoclonus epilepsy. She will both perform research at the lab as well as research in clinic. Her aim is to connect the knowledge gathered at the lab with the knowledge learned from patients with North Sea progressive myoclonus epilepsy.

In addition, Saar Lagerweij managed to acquire such a trajectory. Saar will investigate deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson's disease and dystonia. She will examine whether there are certain characteristics in patients that predict whether DBS will have the desired effect or not.

We are very proud of Sjoukje and Saar and wish them good luck with their projects.
